The Patagonia Program is part of the Conservation Department of Aves Argentinas. It was created with the objective of scaling up conservation actions for biodiversity and Patagonian environments at the regional level, based on solid scientific evidence.

Mission

Through management, the Patagonia Program seeks to implement conservation strategies to halt the extinction of several endangered species and to preserve the health of the environment. Our work on a local scale has an impact on a national level.

Vision

Through scientific research, we promote the generation of knowledge to understand the biological processes of the environment and the formulation of strategies to conserve them. We contribute to the management and creation of protected areas, environmental awareness and sustainability.

A bit of history

In 2009 and due to the crisis faced by the critically endangered Hooded Grebea critically endangered species endemic to Southern Patagonia, we created the Hooded Grebe Project. After years of extensive work and research, we realized that in order to avoid the extinction of this species we had to work on a regional scale. In this way we will be able to address the different threats, among them invasive species, habitat changes and loss, and the possibility of including social aspects in these problems.

In response to this need, in 2013 we created the Patagonia Program to generate conservation and research actions in this region. Since then, the Program has grown steadily and today we work on different projects and species from Neuquén to Tierra del Fuego.

Objectives

We work for the conservation of unique species of Patagonia Argentina.

We study, restore and protect key environments for conservation

Controlling invasive species that threaten native biodiversity

We engage with the community through our work, activities and events.
