Kau-Yat Research Station

Somuncurá Foundation

This station was created in 2021 when Fundación Somuncurá and Fundación Hábitat y Desarrollo acquired the Lonco Vaca ranch in Paraje Chipauquil, at the foot of the Somuncurá plateau.

Target

The objective of this Scientific Station is to facilitate research and conservation of the biodiversity of the Somuncurá Plateau, with emphasis (but not exclusively) on the headwaters of the Valcheta stream, where the Mojarra Desnuda and the Ranita de Valcheta, two endemic and critically endangered species, live. The station provides logistical resources for the development of conservation and research actions focused mainly on endangered species. It currently serves as a base for a series of research projects of different universities.

Reservations

  • Availability: All year round, reservation and confirmation required.
  • Maximum length of stay: To be defined according to space availability
  • Cost of stay: Free for Argentine researchers.
  • Important: Please note that if your research project requires it, you must apply for a research permit at the Secretariat of Environment and Climate Change. People staying at the Station must have personal accident insurance or ART certificate (in case of CONICET personnel or other state units).
